The U.S. Small Business Administration and the New York Business Development Corporation, along with participating lenders and economic developers, recently recognized the Aesthetic Science institute of Latham with a Small Business Excellence Award at the 12th Annual Small Business Excellence Awards luncheon and ceremony at the Desmond Hotel and Conference Center in Colonie.
Aesthetic Science Institute owner Michelle D’Allaird-Brenner was among 22 successful small business owners representing a full range of products, services, and innovations from Upstate New York that received awards. Nominators selected businesses based on a variety of criteria including growth, increased revenue, increases in employees, impact on the community, response to adversity, longevity, and entrepreneurial leadership. The Small Business Development Center at the University of Albany nominated Aesthetic Science Institute.
“These businesses may not be big in size, but their contributions to our economy are gigantic,” said Bernard J. Paprocki, Syracuse SBA district director. “You rely on them for the products you use and the services you need. Their names are on little league uniforms and their sponsor banners fly high over community events. The businesses we honor are part of the 27 million businesses across the nation, that by their success contribute daily to our prosperity.”
The Aesthetic Science Institute (ASI) is a New York State license esthetics school, providing a solid educational format for individuals entering the skin care profession. Michelle D’Allaird opened ASI Latham in 2003 and ASI Syracuse in 2006. ASI graduates approximately 150 estheticians per year, having a 100% graduation rate and over an 80% job placement rate.
The Small Business Excellence Awards ceremony is one of many events in local communities across the nation that celebrated National Small Business Week.
“Small business owners embody the spirit of entrepreneurship and strong work ethic that lie at the heart of the American dream. They are the backbone of our Nation’s economy, they employ tens of millions of workers, and, in the past 15 years, they have created the majority of new private sector jobs.” said President Barack Obama in his annual Small Business Week proclamation. “We celebrate the role of entrepreneurs and small businesses in our national life. They are the engine of our prosperity and a proud reflection of our character. A healthy small business sector will give us vibrant communities, cutting edge technology, and an American economy that can compete and win in the 21st century.”
